In a remarkable showcase of urban innovation and architectural prowess, the COSMO Science Forum in Dresden has become the stage for unveiling a series of visionary projects aimed at reimagining the city’s iconic Ostragehege. Organized by the Urban LAB, a collaborative effort between TU Dresden, TU Krakow, and TU Prague, the exhibition presents innovative ideas to transform this historically significant area into a vibrant hub of community, culture, and sustainability.

Under the guidance of project leaders Angela Mensing-de Jong and Irene Lohaus, the Urban LAB has brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including academic institutions, city authorities, and private enterprises, to explore the potential of Ostragehege and its surroundings.

From March 5th to April 4th, visitors to the COSMO Science Forum have been treated to an array of innovative proposals that envision Ostragehege as more than just a venue for occasional events. Instead, it emerges as a dynamic urban space that harmonizes with its natural setting while offering a wide range of amenities and activities for residents and visitors alike.

Among the highlights of the exhibition are designs for expansive green spaces along the river, integrated with pedestrian and cycling paths, recreational facilities, and educational centers focusing on environmental awareness. These proposals aim to enhance public access to nature, promote healthy lifestyles, and foster a deeper connection with the local ecosystem.

Furthermore, the Urban LAB’s projects envision Ostragehege as a cultural hotspot, hosting a diverse array of festivals, performances, and exhibitions throughout the year. By leveraging its strategic location and historical significance, the area could become a magnet for artists, entrepreneurs, and cultural enthusiasts, contributing to Dresden’s reputation as a vibrant cultural destination.

Importantly, the exhibition also tackles questions of sustainability and inclusivity, exploring how Ostragehege can serve as a model for eco-friendly urban development and social integration. By prioritizing green infrastructure, renewable energy, and community engagement, the projects aim to create a space that benefits all residents, regardless of background or income level.

As part of the exhibition, the Urban LAB has facilitated discussions among stakeholders, inviting feedback and collaboration to refine and implement the proposed initiatives. Through this participatory approach, the aim is to ensure that the vision for Ostragehege reflects the needs and aspirations of the local community, while also inspiring future generations of urban planners and designers.

With the COSMO Science Forum serving as a platform for dialogue and inspiration, the Urban LAB’s exhibition marks a significant step forward in the ongoing revitalization of Dresden’s urban landscape. As the city looks towards the future, Ostragehege stands poised to emerge as a shining example of sustainable, inclusive, and culturally vibrant urban development.

Stay tuned for further updates on the implementation of these visionary projects and their impact on Dresden’s urban fabric.
